According to ANN, the first volume of the Deltora Quest manga (where I believe most/all the character designs for anime originated from) is due out in July 2011.

I haven't had any opportunity to watch the anime dub since the first ep until today (I am very far behind, obviously) but, generic soundtrack aside, I'm actually okay with the English voice-acting and the script. Except the villains maybe: I'd expected a voice that was digitally altered to be very low and very eeeeevil for the Shadowlord.

The thing that struck me the most is that whoever wrote the scripts actually bothered to read up on the books. They changed "Joker"'s name back to Doom, for one; you also get some idea when you look at the episode titles (e.g. the episode I watched was titled "The Fight in Vetaksa Village" in Japanese, but it's called "Battle at Withick Mire" in the dub since that's what it's called in the books.) Colour me somewhat impressed! :)

Hi!

I had been watching the subs of Deltora Quest when it first came out a few years back and recently I came upon it on tv dubbed. So I was watching it there but it has started over to the beggining so I figured the rest wasn't dubbed yet and I could find it online. But I can't seem to find anything beyond 27 subbed. I went to animecrazy but they had it without subtitles

Though I'd still watch the dubs on TV it's always entertaining to see what they do with it does anyone know anywhere it's subbed?

If anyone knows it would be really appreciated <3~ thanks!

I started one of these posts at [livejournal.com profile] wildarms a while back and got some interesting responses... and despite CN Australia's streaming the anime (and ye gods! they take things down so fast!), this comm's still very, very quiet.

So, folks, tell me... what music reminds you of Deltora Quest? Doesn't have to be associated with specific characters or moments, could just be the series as a whole or a particular setting. Anything's cool.

Link lyrics, Youtube vids, downloads, whatever. I want to know if I'm the only one here who listens to loud European folk-rock!

And speaking of that... )

It's late, here, and I'm getting tired, so for now just those three are going up. But, ah, if anyone wants more LOUD MUSIC WITH PIPES AND BASS AND SHOUTING, I've got plenty.

I haven't been keeping track of the episodes that have been airing in Australia at all, but it appears that broadcasts are up to 12 episodes now. Cartoon Network seems to require logging in now to view the videos, which is strange because they worked fine for me without having to do that when it first started. \o_O/ Glancing at some of the titles though, I'm actually a bit impressed that they decided to keep them about the same as the original Japanese (probably because they're so straightforward and Deltora Quest isn't really one for making puns out of).

Also I only just noticed that they have summaries up to episode 52. This is interesting, considering in the anime's original run, there followed 10 extra filler episodes. Could it be the dubbers decided to cut them out? We'll see in about a year or two, I suppose. |D;

By the way, if you're still interested in watching DQ in Japanese with subs, AnimeCrazy.net appears to have them available for streaming online up to episode 26.

Edit: I almost forgot: the anime is set to air in the U.S. in the future as well.

Edit II: And there is a Deltora Quest wikia now!

...I write poetry. Most of it isn't worth putting out on the 'net, but some of it is.

And some of it's fandom-inspired like this was.

Been digging around looking for info about when exactly Deltora Quest will be showing, and it looks like they've moved it to May 1st. ABC will also be showing it at the end of the year.

In the meantime! I do believe the first and second episodes are up for online viewing at the official website. Unfortunately, it has been through the usual kiddie anime dubbing process so the musics been changed and stuffs been cut out. This probably means we won't get Delta Goodrem singing one of the openings later ... Not sure how to feel about that.

If you're with Foxtel, apparently you can download the first episode here.

The first DVD will also be available via Madman in June. However, it seems unlikely it will come with the Japanese language track, soooo I'm wondering why they bothered officially subbing it for SMASH! last year. :\a

The anime has apparently been out in Italy since the third of March. Someone was kind enough to post the opening and ending they got over there. (I may be showing my age here, but... when 4Kids Entertainment's dub openings had less generic-sounding music than a current production, something is wrong. Not that it isn't catchy generic-sounding music, but ... the music and voice cast were what kept me watching the anime. This doesn't bode well for the rest of the soundtrack!) The editing on both is quite neatly done, I'll give them that!

But what caught my eye was the text over the ending that got posted...

Well, see for yourselves. )

Y'all remember my post last year about Deltora Quest showing at SMASH!? If you hadn't guessed, I didn't get to see it, unfortunately, and I haven't really heard a peep about it from anyone who went to the con on the second day. But nevermind that.

It's been announced that DQ will be airing in Australia and New Zealand on Cartoon Network in April.

Um. Hi. My name's Jane, I'm an American and really bad at introductions, and I am here with a question for y'all.

While the anime made Lief a blond, the books have him described as dark-haired. On the off chance that one were to play him at one of the RPGs here on Livejournal, and not want to use anime!Lief as a played-by/icon source for book!Lief, what actor would y'all suggest using as a played-by? See, I'm not quite sure about using Anton Yelchin, as most of the internet now knows him as Pavel Chekov and there is a distinct lack of pictures of him in medievalish clothes. I'd appreciate any input anybody else might have!

(Yes, I might be picking Lief up somewhere once I get my hands on the books my library apparently doesn't have, and yes, I'd love canonmates.)

Y'all might be familiar with an anime convention called SMASH! happening this weekend. I just found out that the schedule was finally posted last week and, if you want look at the first image here, on the Sunday events ...

... they'll be screening Deltora Quest.

And according to the one of the con staff in the blog comments, it will have official subs from Cartoon Network.

It's a bit of a pity - not a lot of people seem interested in the anime. When it first started, I saw a lot of people write it off as being too much like Lord of the Rings or Zelda. And here we are, over a year later!

There's now a third opening, which, much to my amusement and surprise, is In This Life by Delta Goodrem. Not too fond of this song myself (it's on the radio WAY too much, among other things), but I guess a song by an Australian for an anime based on a series by an Australian writer is ... something! Anyway, technically this "version" is called In This Life~旅立ちまでの3ステップ (romaji: tabidachi made no 3 step) which translates to something like "three steps to setting off", I think.

While this opening isn't as upbeat or action-packed as the others, the animation is still very beautiful.

Tomorrow's episode is episode 56, which according to Wikipedia is supposed to be the last one. ("A 56 part Deltora Quest anime series of the first 8 books is currently in production in Japan ..."), but I dunno. It looks very ... filler. Maybe they're going to do more episodes? I'd love it if they continued on to do the other two book series.

There's a new opening and a third ending now:

OP: 僕の太陽 by AKB48 (romaji: boku no taiyou)
ED: Go To Fly by Sunbrain

The anime is up to episode 30 this weekend; we are finally introduced to the Ols.

I also found a short, 15-sec trailer for the DS game and there are a number of pictures available at RPGamer (under Media). The character designs are similar to the anime, but also rather different.

And finally: the website for the card game, if you want to poke around.

This popped up in the comments somewhere by a non-LJ user, so - and I hope the original poster doesn't mind - I'm reposting it here so that everyone can see and maybe help.

My daughter's a fan

She wants me to make her a Jasmine costume for Book week (end of next term)

Was hoping to

a/ find someone I could discuss some critical elements of the cosutme

or

b/ fan pictures so she & I could use for reference.

rather than leave my e-mail here - I've put the link for the yahoo questions where I ask for info. Hope it's OK.

Here's the list that I promised! It's not really complete, as I currently have no access to the episodes and thus can't look at the casts after every episode so these are mainly the few names provided by the TV Aichi website on their "episodes up til now" pages. Also, I ran the kanji of the voice actors' names through ANN to find them - there's the odd person who doesn't turn up anything, so voicing in Deltora Quest could possibly be their first "gig". That said, since I can't read their names, I left them in kanji.

I think that's about it. Onwards!

Main Characters
Lief - Ryosuke Sakamaki
Jasmine - Ayahi Takagaki
Barda - Yuusaku Yara
Filli - Chigusa Ikeda
Kree - Miyako Ito

From here on, characters are listed as they are at the TV Aichi website, depending on which episode they first appear.

The anime has a new ending:

Hey Now!! by COOLON

It's all in chibi animation, light and upbeat, and in my opinion? Very, very cute. The single will be out at the end of the month.

Update storywise: tomorrow is episode 18, and will be Jasmine vs. Doom Joker during the Rithmere Games. A number of characters have already been introduced by now, and since Anime News Network seems to not be updating their Deltora page, expect a list of seiyuu/voice actors in the next month or so (unless someone else is willing to do it...?)

Edit: The first DVD will be out on the 23rd!

In case people haven't noticed, I've decided that any downloads from now on must be Friends Locked. This applies to episodes, music, manga, whatever comes along - basically. The decision was made after quite some debate, but I believe it's better just to be safe.

On a lighter note! I realised that I posted some news that probably shouldn't have ended up in a F-locked post, but did. There's a Deltora Quest DS game in production! The graphics look somewhat "old-fashioned" in my opinion. According to this article, the entire game will be controlled by stylus, which should prove to be interesting.

I had a inkling from the anime eyecatches, and it seems it's true: scroll down this page and see the card game.

And finally, Emily Rodda's website has updated with a page about the anime. =D
